Ludger Beerbaum on the course of the Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen for the last time

A very big one says goodbye to active sport

When Ludger Beerbaum came into the course of the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen today as the eighteenth starter with Mila, only he probably knew that it would be his last sporting appearance. Because the surprise was great when he came to the arena with Mila after the award ceremony. You have to respect your biological clock and stop when you realize it’s time. This is how the four-time Olympic champion, who also won the Grand Prix of Aachen three times, began his brief farewell statement. He had been in Aachen for more than three decades and could not imagine a better place or a greater audience to say goodbye to active sport. „It is a pleasure for me to take this step, which is not easy for me, at the most beautiful tournament in the world.“

Ludger Beerbaum thanked his team, his sponsor Madeleine Winter-Schulze and everyone who supported him in his sporting career. The fact that all this was not easy for him and that great emotions determined this moment was also shown by the fact that he had to pause once… Then he said goodbye to the Aachen audience with a last big lap of honor.
